Specialized Training

Auto Mechanics / Welding

These two programs teach skills to those boys that are not academically inclined and prepare them for their future. The Auto Mechanic Program teaches basic knowledge of general auto repair, including electrical and bodywork. The boys work on the vehicles from the Foundation as well as from the community. At the welding workshop the kids learn basic to advanced welding. The shop takes care of some of the maintenance of the facility and repair jobs from the surrounding areas.

After school and homework, kids attend daily english classes at AHLE and together with online practice we prepare them for a better future. We believe that in a country like Honduras that relies on exports of produce, textiles and coffee, english becomes one of the main requirements for employment.

The computer school at AHLE is equipped with 30 computers with internet access.  All the boys at AHLE, ages 15 and over, as well as the girls in the Scholarship Program, can attend the school and are familiar with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. The computers are also used for online english lessons.

Our music and art program enables our youth to learn a variety of instruments. This program helps our kids to develop confidence, creativity, patience and discipline. Practice provides them with the feeling of achievement as they continue to improve,  as well as teaching them teamwork. The kids learn to read and write music as well as to play piano, guitar and percussion instruments.  We have seen a substantial improvement reflected on the children’s grades since the start of this program

Agricultural Program

Teaching the kids to grow their own food is one of the most valuable lessons in a country that is mostly agricultural. At AHLE we have a substantial vegetable garden where every year the kids plant cucumbers, beans, tomatoes, kale, mustard leaves and other greens. There are also many plantain, banana plants,  avocado and mango trees,  and a chicken coop to supply our kitchen with eggs. In 2014 we obtained an additional piece of agricultural property near AHLE where corn and yuca are planted every year.  The children are involved in tending to the veggie garden and the chickens as part of the house chores, and harvesting the crops for AHLE and to share with the community as a weekend activity.

Conservation And Environmental Studies (2018-2019)

At the present time, we are working on creating a new program to teach our children and the young members of the surrounding communities the importance of preserving the environment and conservation of the fauna and flora. With the support of very dedicated local people we are creating a curriculum that will include field trips to natural preserves.
