Children helping to prepare the landNahun Alberto is 19 years old and has been at AHLE since 2006. He is studying Agricultural Business Administration, and is part of a group of 12 students, two of them from AHLE, who last year represented their school in a nationwide competition called Honduran Dream. Their project was an Organic Compost Business Project. Their team was one of the 6 finalists that, in front of a panel of experts, had to present their business idea explaining the qualities of their product, the process, the financial investment and what were their commercial objectives were. Judging was based on creativity, sustainability, feasibility, employment creation, and product presentation. Nahum Alberto, and his team won first prize, and a check was presented to them by US Ambassador Lisa Kubiske, for the school team to continue to develop their project.
Children helping to prepare the landThis is when the idea of the Organic Food Garden was born, and with Nahun Alberto at the helm, we have started an in-house organic eggs and vegetable patch project. The project will comprise of a chicken house which will accommodate about 80 chickens and also a vegetable garden. The idea is to supply the kitchen at AHLE with fresh eggs and vegetables and for Nahun Alberto with a team of interns, to manage it.

The whole project created a lot of excitement amongst the children and they got to work immediately, they cleared the ground and leveled it, and with some new, and recycled materials they built the chicken house.
We are hoping that with your support we will be able to finish this project. Your generous donation will help not only to buy fencing and fencing posts to finish the chicken run, and enclose the vegetable garden area, but also to buy chickens, feed, equipment, seeds, watering hoses, and garden tools to get this project going.
